Collections of Curious Things

As I'm sure you can tell from my posts about Vintage fairs and rummaging through charity shops in Hove, I do love Curious things! I love to stumble across something beautiful and re- home it! Not that I'm a hoarder, quite the contrary, I clear out and organise things regularly and I hate mess and clutter. I just love little oddities and providing they have a place, a shelf or a treasure box for example, then I'm happy to take things home! I do have a few curious collections and I love them! I have a box of 'treasures' the happy little things I found at Department and Lou Lou's vintage fair (see my older posts in April for the pictures) and the newest and cutest addition to this box is Mousey:

Mousey (Normal, Sunshine filter, Retro filter)
I saw Mousey at the bottom of box of random bits, he was covered in dust and he was absolutely filthy but those big, blue, Disney like eyes called to me! a quick look at the bottom tells me he's from the 1950's and that he's a cake topper! He reminds me a bit of Jerry (like Tom and Jerry) and at 20p he's a steal! I gave him a wash in some hot soapy water using a soft old toothbrush and he looks gorgeous!

I also collect the older hardback Noddy books. I loved Noddy when I was a kid and it really upsets me that he's been replaced by CGI and all the books have been reissued with the 'modern' Noddy. I spotted my favourite story 'Noddy goes to the Fair' in Department, Hove and had to have it. I used to have this story on cassette tape and I can remember the genuine childlike joy at the hilarious antics of Noddy, Bumpy Dog and Tessie Bear as they knock down the coconut with PC Plods helmet on! Since then I have acquired a number of the books, all from the 70's, in really good condition from charity shops:

They really are beautiful books and I'm so glad I have them in my collection! I found numbers 2,3 and 4 at Oxfam books in Hove for 49p each and the condition really is fantastic. I hope, one day, I will be able to read these gorgeous books to my own children.

My other truly amazing collection is safe in the loft at the moment, It's my Christmas decoration collection and I can't wait for Christmas to roll around again so I can get the photos of the baubles onto the blog!

What exciting things do you collect?
